Today you are two

Huxley Thane.

Today at 11:29 a.m., you officially turned 2. Quite honestly, this year has been a whirlwind. Between sports, school activities, and church-It seems life is on fast forward. Being your mom is...the wildest ride. You are so full of life and passion. I’m in love with how wild and free your personality is. Strangely, when you are in a room with a lot of people or loud noises, you tend to withdraw. This does not bother me one little bit-because I am your safe place. You return to me and nuzzle your face into my neck, warm arms wrapped tightly around me. You communicate so clearly-making sure it is known exactly what you need. Some of our favorite words that you say:
Moon- “mewn”
Tractor-“Mama, dat tractor.” (Was your first sentence)
Milk- you call your milk “Foffee”-like mamas coffee.
Shoes and socks-“shews and sox”
Cup-you call it your “bottle”-even though we never have. Stubborn?
Haly-Hayee
Malachi- Chi Chi
Paxton-Bubba. You started calling him this all on your own! So. Cute.
You refuse to say that you are two. In typical Huxley fashion. You insist you are “free” or three.

You point to your eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, hair, nose, belly, hands, and feet. We can’t often go anywhere without someone commenting on how big you are. I’m pretty sure football is in your future. You sport 3T clothes and have big ol’ feet. Your hands are so big! Wonder what they will do! Will they catch a football, sign an important bill in Congress, or perform a miraculous surgery? Will they hold their own sweet 2-year-old someday?

You love to draw and like the letter “O”. You also say, “2, 3, 2, 3” while drawing. Your favorite book right now is “Goodnight Moon”-because of your love for the “mewn”. When we are outside, you are always searching for the moon-even during the day!

Your passions are tractors and trucks, digging in dirt, being outside, and building with blocks. You love the big, yellow Tonka truck that Myme and Papa got you for your birthday. Daddy is the man. When he gets home, you stop whatever it is you are doing and run as fast as you can to him. You also LOVE “Tayo” and “Chuggington”. You love FaceTiming family that is far away, like Grammy, Aunt Shannan, and Uncle DJ-even though you hold it to your ear like you’re on the phone-saying “Hewwo?”

Today was an ordinary day for you. Since you are the baby of the family, you are typically doted on every single day. It was rather annoying how we kept singing “Happy Birthday” and  asking you to say “I’m two!” (Which you never did). But we tried to make it special-with your favorite things. Pancakes, chocolate milk, playing outside, visiting the library and your grandparents, a trip to the park (where you could roam free), a nice long bubble bath. We even sang to you again before you went to bed. It was a sunny, beautiful November day.

You love to be in a wide open space without parameters. Roaming around is your favorite past time. As long as Mama is close by, you love to explore. Man, that’s one of my most favorite things about you! While this adventurous spirit could get you into trouble, you are going to climb mountains with your Daddy and siblings one day while Mama is at home making snacks.

You are at such a fun age, learning something new every day. You’re getting big though. It’s hard to lug you into your crib (which you learned to climb out of this week-ahh!). Promise me that you won’t ever let this world tame your wild. So many prayers are lifted up from my heart to Jesus for you-prayers that he will guide your every step and grasp your heart at a young age. As you laid your sweet  2-year-old head down on your pillow tonight and your eyes drifted shut,  your body relaxed-my prayers focused on  peace and joy for you, my sweet boy. That when trials and troubles of this world come (and they will), you will be strengthened and grow through them all. That you will rely on Jesus’ strength and not your own.

What a privilege it is to be your Mama. Your brothers and sister have paved the way for you. My heart is softer now. You see, three 2-year-olds have sat in my lap before you. While they don’t smell like babies anymore, they have definitely taught me how to love more than ever imagined possible.

Love everything about you. Your belly laugh. The facetious grin you give me when you’re about to do something you know will get you in trouble. Your gigantic size 8.5 feet.

Most of all though, just you calling me “Mama” is my favorite.

Love you always,
Mama
